Fun Things to Do With Your Dog This Summer

Summer is just around the corner! Be sure to keep your dog in mind as you start making your summertime plans. Fido loves the warm weather, and also enjoys having some fun in the sun. In this article from Armitage Animal Clinic, a Newmarket, ON vet lists some great things to do with your dog this summer.

Visit The Vet

We know, this one probably wouldn’t make the top of Fido’s list. However, before setting off on any fun adventures with your pup, you’ll want to make sure he is spayed or neutered and current on his vaccinations and parasite control products. Your furry friend should also be microchipped and wearing proper ID tags. While you’re there, ask your vet for specific advice on your pet’s activity needs. Some of the activities listed below may not be right for every dog, so it’s important to get some professional advice on safe, suitable activities.

Hiking

Man’s Best Friend certainly loves exploring. Take Fido to a doggy park this summer, or try a pretty trail.

Camping

Fido can make a great camping buddy. Take your canine companion on an overnight retreat to a pretty lake or mountain spot. Don’t forget to pack for the pooch! You’ll need to bring bedding, treats, toys, water, dishes, and a doggy first-aid kit.

Swimming

Does your furry pal like swimming? Indulge him! This is a great way for dogs to get some exercise. Just be sure to put safety first: don’t bring Fido to places with heavy currents, and never leave him near the water unsupervised. Ask your vet for more safety tips.

Fetch

For dogs, life’s simple pleasures really can’t be beat. Take time to play with Fido every day. Even a few rounds of fetch can really get that cute tail going!

Photo Session

Summer is a perfect time to capture some adorable doggy pictures. Get some fun photos of your furry best friend chasing his favorite toy, or playing in the water from your hose.

Special Treat

What better way to cool off on a sweltering day than with some ice cream? Make Fido his own version by mixing natural peanut butter with ripe bananas and plain yogurt.
