Paw Care
Doggy paw pads are very sensitive. Fido can easily get burns and blisters from running on hot tar or asphalt. Your pet’s furry feet are particularly delicate when they are wet, so you’ll need to take extra care with your pooch after he goes swimming. Keep your canine friend on soft surfaces, and use paw balm or wax to protect his feet.
Safety
You may have heard this before, but it definitely bears repeating: never leave your four-legged buddy in a parked car. This can be dangerous even when it doesn’t seem that hot out, as temperatures inside a closed vehicle rise very quickly. If you can’t take your dog indoors with you at your destination, leave him safe and sound at home, in rooms cooled by fans or air conditioners.
Keeping Fido Cool
Keeping your pet hydrated is very important! Make sure that Fido always has plenty of fresh, clean water. Your pooch will also need shade and shelter when he’s outdoors.
Veterinary Care
As the weather warms up, fleas, ticks, and other pests will come out in droves. Make sure your furry pal is up to date on his vaccinations and parasite control products. Ask your vet for specific recommendations.
Exploring
Fido can make a great trail buddy for camping or hiking trips! Just be sure to put safety first. Always keep your pet leashed, especially near riverbanks or other hazards. Also, don’t let your canine companion drink from standing water, as it could be unsafe. If you bring your dog camping, make sure to keep Fido away from potential hazards, such as campfires, hot coals, and trash.
Summer Fun
Want to help your four-legged pal beat the heat? Get your pooch a kiddie pool to splash around in! You can also make Fido some frozen doggy treats. Look online for pet-safe recipe ideas. If your pup has thick fur, ask your vet for advice on giving him a cool summer ‘do.
