5 Fun Things to Do With Your Dog in 2016

Happy New Year! Today, many of us are looking back on the past year, and forming game plans for the coming one. If you’re making resolutions, why not incorporate your canine pal into your new goals? After all, Fido will be right there at your side in 2016, offering love, friendship, tail wags, and doggy kisses. Below, a Newmarket, ON vet lists some things you can do with your dog in the coming months.

Man’s Best Friend loves exploring! Take time to visit some new places with your pooch. Check out a new doggy park or hiking trail, or take Fido on a weekend camping getaway.

Get In Shape

Fitness goals are very popular New Year’s resolutions. There are lots of ways to include Fido in these resolutions. Take your dog on daily walks, or, when it’s warm enough, try swimming, hiking, agility training, or even dancing with your pet. Vigorous exercise isn’t right for every dog, so ask your vet for recommendations first.

Photo Session

Enlist a friend or family member to help get some great shots of you and Fido. Shoot at sunset for a beautiful silhouette photo, or try different effects, such as sepia or black and white. Or, just get some fun candid shots of you and your pup playing or cuddling.

Learn Something New

We never stop learning new things, and our canine pals shouldn’t, either. If Fido hasn’t quite mastered the basic commands of good doggy obedience, take time to teach him. These commands, which are Sit, Stay, Heel, Come, and Lay Down, are really the foundation of good petiquette. If your pooch already knows these, show him some more advanced commands, or just have some fun and show him some cute tricks. Of course, you can also learn new things: do some research into doggy behavior, or your pet’s breed.

Quality Time

The time we have with our canine pals often passes much too quickly. Don’t forget to carve out some time just to relax with your furry best friend. Indulge him with belly rubs and ear scratches, and good conversation. You’ll both benefit from this special bonding time!

All of us here at your Newmarket, ON animal clinic want to wish you a wonderful new year. We look forward to providing your pet with excellent veterinary care in 2016 and beyond.
