Cute Ways to Celebrate Pet Appreciation Week

Pet Appreciation Week starts June 4th! While we think pets should be appreciated all year round, this is a great time to show your four-legged friend some extra TLC. After all, pets are truly wonderful gifts. Their love, loyalty, hilarious antics, and cute furry faces help turn our houses into homes, and can really lift our spirits on bad days. In this article from Armitage Animal Clinic, a Sharon, ON vet offers some great tips on how to celebrate Pet Appreciation Week.

New Bed

Our furry friends are rather sleepy. Dogs spend about half of their time snoozing, and kitties can sleep as much as 20 hours a day. A new bed is a great way to brighten up your little buddy’s day! Keep your four-legged pal’s personality in mind when you go shopping. For instance, if you have a senior dog, Fido would probably really appreciate an orthopedic doggy bed.

If there’s one thing all of our animal companions love, it’s a yummy snack. Fluffy may enjoy some plain tuna in water, or perhaps some kitty milk. Cooked, plain meat, chicken, or fish with the bones, skin, and fat removed is a great treat for both dogs and cats.

Fun Adventure

This one mostly applies to Fido. (Fluffy’s idea of a fun adventure may consist of exploring a closet that’s usually closed.) Take your canine buddy to a doggy park or a pet café, or explore a new trail. Dogs love sniffing new patches of grass!

Playing isn’t just fun for pets: it’s also great for them! Take little time to throw that rope toy for Fido, or hold that laser pointer so Fluffy can chase that elusive red dot.

Veterinary Care

We know, Fluffy and Fido would probably prefer anything else on this list to a doctor’s appointment. However, your furry friend will both look and feel better with proper veterinary care. Take a few minutes to schedule your pet’s next visit.

Other Options

If you have a kitty, consider getting Fluffy a cat tower or pet tent. A window seat is also a good way to activate the purr. As for Fido, he may love some new toys, a wading pool, or even a new doghouse.
