National Dog Day

Did you know that there is a very special pet holiday coming up? August 26th is National Dog Day! Fido certainly deserves a fun day of his own. After all, our canine pals truly have earned the official title of Man’s Best Friend with their love, loyalty, bravery, and friendship. In this article from Armitage Animal Clinic, a Newmarket, ON vet discusses some great ways to pamper your pup on his special day.

Toys keep Fido entertained, prevent doggy boredom, and offer your furry buddy beneficial mental stimulation. Get your four-legged friend a few new playthings.

Doggy Bed

One of the best things you can do for Fido is to make sure he is sleeping comfortably. Get your pooch a comfy doggy bed. (Tip: an orthopedic bed is a great choice for senior dogs and large breeds.)

Nothing gets that cute tail wagging like the thought of a tasty snack! Treat your four-legged friend to something extra yummy, like a plain hamburger or even a steak. Just hold the seasonings, and be sure to remove the skin, bones, and fat first. Ask your vet for specific advice.

Photo Session

Take a few minutes to snap some cute pictures of your canine buddy. (Tip: book Fido’s photo shoot for dusk or dawn, when the light is better.)

Indulge your four-legged pal with an extra-long play session. This is a great way to keep that furry tail wagging!

Fun Adventure

Let Fido enjoy a change of scenery by taking him on a fun trip to a doggy park. You can also explore a new trail, or just try a different walking route. Of course, your pooch will also enjoy a trip to a pet-friendly café for a special treat.

Puppy Play Zone

Dogs love getting fresh air and exercise. If you have a yard, why not make it more fun for Fido by adding a doghouse, kiddie pool, or sandbox? A doghouse is also a great gift.

Quality Time

Spend some quality time with your canine friend. Offer Fido lots of belly rubs and ear scritches, and just have fun with your pup. It will be good for both of you!
