5 Reasons to Play With Your Cat Regularly

Do you take time to play with your feline friend? If so, that’s great! Playing with your cat regularly is actually one of the best things you can do for her health and well-being. In this article from Armitage Animal Clinic, a Newmarket, ON vet lists some great reasons to play with Fluffy regularly.

Exercise

As you’ve probably noticed, cats are very, very fond of napping. Fluffy’s sleeping obsession is cute, but it can make it easy for her to pack on extra pounds. Regular play sessions are a great way to keep your kitty active, which is great for her physically. Even a few minutes of pouncing and jumping will benefit your pet.

Stimulation

Mental stimulation is just as important for our feline buddies as it is for us. Playing can help keep your cat’s mind sharp. To make playtime more fun, use a toy that you can control, like a wand toy or laser pointer. Fluffy will have to concentrate to time those tricky jumps and pounces just right! She can also be quite intrigued by that elusive red dot. Think of it as the kitty equivalent of doing a crossword puzzle!

Bonding

Playing with your cat is a great way to bond with her and spend time with her. When you take time to entertain Fluffy, she will know you’re doing something for her amusement. This will help make her feel loved and pampered. Don’t be surprised if your furball hops into your lap after playtime for some kitty cuddle time!

Burn Excess Energy

Does your kitty wake you up by playing ‘hockey’ or ‘soccer’ in the middle of the night? Tire Fluffy out with a fun play session, and then give her a late dinner before you go to bed. If your cat is both full and tired, she’ll probably be more interested in snuggling up with you for a nap than pouncing on your toes.

Comedic Relief

Last but not least, playing with your cat is fun for you both! Our feline friends are absolutely hilarious when they are pouncing on their toys, or chasing that little red dot. What better way to end a long day than by watching your little buddy jump and play?
