Taking Your Work to Your Dog

June 15 2020

Have you been working from home lately? Many of us have had our lives upended by the coronavirus this year. If you’re telecommuting, it’s probably safe to say that your canine buddy probably isn’t too upset by this. Being able to spend more time with your family and your pet may be one of the few bright sides of this situation. In this article from Armitage Animal Clinic, a Newmarket, ON veterinarian discusses working from home with dogs.

Schedule

Man’s Best Friend is a creature of habit, and he definitely thrives on routine. Try to stick to a set schedule for walks, playtime, meals, snacks, and cuddle sessions. This doesn’t mean that Fido won’t occasionally interrupt you by whining or nudging you to let you know he needs a walk. That’s fine! The fresh air and sunshine will do you both good.

Workstation

Dogs love to stick close to their owners. Fido will likely spend a lot of time sprawled out at your feet. Bring a doggy bed into your office area, and keep some toys in there as well. Don’t be surprised if you find yourself working lots of belly rubs and ear scritches into your day!

Morale

Our furry friends are very, very good at lifting our spirits. Fido is also a great inspiration! Your pooch will remind you to take lots of naps, stretch, drink lots of water, and get up regularly. He may also be a great mood booster for others. Put a tie on your four-legged buddy, and snap a cute photo of him to share with friends and family. One of the best things you can do right now is make other people smile.

Tail Wags

If our canine pals could pick their most important job, it may very well be keeping their humans happy, healthy, and safe. Fido has some pretty cute ways of seeing to this adorable duty! He may run up to you holding his favorite toy. He may also lean against you, doze off at your feet, or just keep you smiling with his cute doggy antics. Tail wags may not make the world go round, but they definitely do brighten up our days and keep us smiling.
