5 Reasons to Host a Dog Party

June 15 2021

Does your dog love to play with other dogs? Why not throw him a party? Dog Party Day is coming up June 25th, and this is a perfect time to do it. In this article from Armitage Animal Clinic, a Newmarket, ON vet lists a few reasons to consider this.

 Socialization

The first and most important reason to host a puppy party is just socialization. This is crucial for young dogs. Pups that weren’t properly socialized are much more likely to be fearful or aggressive around new places and faces. If Fido hasn’t interacted with other dogs over the last year, it will also be good to get him reacclimated to being around other pups.

Petiquette

Have you recently adopted a puppy? If so, then hosting a puppy party will also help with training. Dogs naturally teach each other the do’s and don’ts of hanging out with other canines. That training is also important for little Fido’s ‘petucation.’

Exercise

Proper activity is very important to your pet’s overall health and well-being. Of course, playing may very well be Fido’s favorite workout. Set out lots of toys, and let your four-legged guests just enjoy being dogs. You may even want to get an automated ball launcher.

Tail Wags

There’s no doubt that dogs are extremely loving and faithful. However, no matter how loyal Fido is, he’ll benefit from being able to play with other pooches. It’s good to let your pet run and play with pups that speak his language.

It’s Cute

While dog parties are loads of fun for Fido, your pet shouldn’t be the only one enjoying himself. This is also a great time for you to get together with people you haven’t seen much—or at all—over the last year. Watching your canine friends hard at play is bound to put a smile on your face and on your guests’!

Tips

Safety, as always, is first. Do some puppyproofing, to make your home safe. You’ll also want to avoid offering your human guests foods that aren’t safe for dogs, like grapes, raisins, and avocados. Set out a variety of toys and treats for your canine guests. Potluck will work nicely for the human ones.
