4 Pawesome Reasons to Celebrate Wolfenoot

November 15 2022
November 23rd has gone to the dogs: it’s Wolfenoot. If you’ve never heard of Wolfenoot, you’re not alone. This is a fairly new holiday … and an absolutely adorable one. A local vet lists some reasons to put some pawprints on your calendar for this pawspicious occasion in this article from Armitage Animal Clinic, your Newmarket, ON animal clinic.

It’s Educational

Wolfenoot was first created by a little New Zealander boy with a big idea: celebrating the spirit of the wolf, specifically by honoring those who have been kind to animals, especially dogs and wolves. (There’s actually an official Wolfenoot storybook, in which you can learn the full story of The Great Wolf.) The importance of being kind to others is a wonderful lesson to teach your child, and one that cannot be overstated.

Delicious Food

We know, Thanksgiving is taking center stage next week. But the official Wolfenoot dinner is a great option for the night before Turkey Day. And in case you were wondering, yes, there actually is an official menu! The main course should be red meat, because that’s what wolves eat. (Vegetarians are of course free to substitute.) For dessert, you’ll want a round cake with white frosting on it, decorated to look like a moon. Cupcakes will also work!

Scavenger Hunts

Any true Wolfenoot celebration should include a scavenger hunt, with the point being to hide small gifts for the Wolfenati to find. (The ranks of the Wolfenati, in case you were wondering, includes anyone who has been kind to animals.) Scavenger hunts can be fun for people of any age or walk of life. They’re also quite fun for dogs! Hide some small snacks or toys for Fido to find. Many dogs love searching for goodies!

It Spreads Kindness

Wolfenoot is growing year by year, and it isn’t hard to see why it’s so quickly become popular. It is an adorable way to celebrate our canine companions! Of course, the true meaning behind Wolfenoot is celebrating those who have been kind. Therefore, spreading the word about animals and animal shelters that need help is a perfect way to celebrate. Share the word on social media. Don’t forget to use the official hashtags: #wolfenoot and the adorable #nohateonlysnootboops. Is your canine buddy due for an exam?
