Autumn is here! Fall can be absolutely gorgeous this time of year here in Ontario. It’s also a perfect chance to spend some quality time with your furry best friend! In this article from Armitage Animal Hospital, a Newmarket, ON vet lists some things to put on your agenda this fall.
Go For A Walk
There’s really no better time to take your four-legged buddy for a long walk than on a crisp fall day. You and Fido may be cooped up for a lot of the winter, so get outdoors while you can! Take your dog to a pretty park, or explore a new trail with him. For extra tail wags, stop at a dog-friendly café on the way home and get your pooch a special treat.
Try On Winter Clothes
If your canine buddy has thin fur, he’ll probably need some extra protection against the cold weather. Inspect all of your dog’s clothes, and make sure that they are in good shape and still fit him properly. Toss and replace anything that is ripped, tight, or worn.
Enjoy A Treat
While you don’t want to go overboard here, there’s really no better way to get your pup’s cute tail wagging than by giving him a yummy treat. If you like cooking, you can make your furry friend his snacks. You’ll find lots of great recipe options online! Just stick to ingredients that you know are safe for dogs. (Tip: peanut butter and pureed pumpkin go great together!)
Visit The Vet
Cold weather can be hard on pets with bone/joint issues. Pets with arthritis often get very stiff and sore when the temperature drops. If you know or suspect that Fido has arthritis or hip dysplasia, ask your vet for specific advice. Supplements, massage, and heated beds can all help keep your canine pal comfortable.
Dreary autumn days are perfect for relaxing at home with your furry buddy. Treat yourself to a quiet day in with Fido. Binge your favorite TV show, cook or order your favorite comfort food, and hang out with your dog. Spending some quiet quality time with your canine pal can be very rejuvenating!
