6 Pawsome Ways To Give Your Yard A Summer Pupgrade

June 15 2023

Many of our canine companions love summer. Fido gets to run and play outside, chase all the squirrels, and sniff at all sorts of leaves and plants. This is also a great time of year for yardwork. Want to really get that cute tail going? Read on! In this article from Armitage Animal Clinic, your Newmarket, ON animal clinic, a vet lists some ways to give your yard a pupgrade in this article.

Plant Curation

Make sure that your yard doesn’t contain any toxic plants. Some common ones include azaleas, rhododendron, tulips, daffodils, lilies, amaryllis, hemlock, and garlic. You can find more listed online at the ASPCA site here.

Ground Cover

Are you planning on tackling some landscaping projects this year? You may want to consider going with a different groundcover. Grass is fine, as long as you don’t have any foxtail grasses. You can also opt for clover, which has the added benefit of not needing to be mowed. Mulch is popular for garden beds, but it isn’t the most pet-friendly option out there: dogs may try to eat it, and it also provides a tempting cover for fleas.

Section It Off

Do you have a pup, a pool, and plants? Consider dividing your yard up into sections. You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg: poultry or deer fencing is very affordable, and can actually look quite nice if installed properly.

Water Fun

Does your pooch love to splash and play in the water? Get him a kiddie pool or sprinkler to play in.

Fence Bubble

This one only applies if you and Fido are on great terms with your neighbors and their dog, or if you have a fence that overlooks a sidewalk, wooded lot, or field. You can actually get doggy windows for fences, which look like little portholes. This is a cute way for Fido to be able to safely watch what’s going on outside of his domain!

Doghouse

Why not get Fido his very own doghouse! There are a few things to consider when shopping, though. Size is very important: if it’s too big, it won’t have that safe, cozy feeling dogs enjoy. Too small is no good, either. Be sure to get something with good insulation.
